Nike’s Hyper Court @ BGC has operated as the city’s hub for basketball and Nike training caps since 2017. At the end of 2019, it will end that over-two year run and return the property, which has been reclaimed for redevelopment by its landowners.
To celebrate the good work done at the location and to mark the closure of the Nike Hyper Court, the brand held two 3×3 tournaments. One for female, and one for female athletes. On that date, Adjima’s sister organization, #HoneycombArts was there to help commemorate the day with an installation dubbed “Victory. Challenges. Moments.”
How it worked
The Nike Hypercourt @ BGC is a basketball court made up of metal, fiberglass & acrylic, wood, and artwork. This sculptural installation is built of the same elements. Together, we will paint the backboard using 3 colors that represent the experiences that we had in The Nike Hypercourt @ BGC:
YELLOW – These are the wins, the victories, and the triumphs.
BLUE – These are the challenges and defeats, those moments that push us to be better.
ORANGE – These are the moments, whether good or bad. It represents significant times and things that happened at Hypercourt @ BGC. That game you hit five 3-pointers, the place you had your first clinic or workshop, or where you broke in a fresh pair of basketball sneakers. For this reason, we have selected the same orange color of the Nike shoe box.
People participated by using a spray can to paint on the backboard in the colors that symbolize their experiences at Nike Hypercourt @ BGC. Once the backboard was completely covered, the panels of the backboard were given away as souvenirs to those who participated. Everyone takes a piece of Nike Hypercourt @ BGC home with them.
