After a couple of years operating relatively low-key during the pandemic, May of 2022 saw the Philippine branch of Meeting of Styles back in full force. Probably what made the event feel special was simply being able to all be together as one community. While the Meeting Of Styles continued in smaller venues since 2019, that also meant that the participants were also limited. The return to what’s now become a culturally iconic location, the parking lot at LRT2 Anonas Station also signalled a return scale and a sort of homecoming for the entire group of artists & writers.
For the uninitiated, Meeting of Styles is an international graffiti event that started in Germany in 1997, making this year’s worldwide MOS gatherings a part of the movement’s 25th anniversary. Showing up at the Philippine event were some of the best local street artists like Egg Fiasco and SYN, as well as international legends such as TITS Crew’s RETRO, who put together a piece with tropical colors reminicent of a garden with birds of paradise.
Completing the experience was the usual mix of local streetwear pop ups, urban music, and the highlight for many: an ongoing tradition of sticker swapping.
Congrats to the organizer, local graffiti supplies shop Carrot Bombing (led by Trip63) for a successful event. And a shout out to all the artists who not only showed up, but showed off a little bit too.
