BARC and Distort Monsters’ 2-man show “Forgotten Myths” explores society’s relationship with storytelling, and the attempt to find one’s self in the lore of our ancestors. The show itself consists of several pottery sculptures and 10 acrylic paintings on canvas. The canvasses are divided in half — five for each artist — with every piece telling a snapshot tale involving a different creature from Filipino mythology. The vibrant exhibition welcomes everyone into a world where ancient stories meet modern creativity. Each piece is a joyful celebration of cultural heritage, brought to life through the distinct styles of the two artists.

The pottery sculptures quietly tell parallel tales, with every curve and glaze sharing whispers of the past. Meanwhile, the paintings burst with color and energy, capturing the spirit of mythical beings like the Tikbalang, the Kapre, and the Sirena. Distort’s teal monster and Barc’s blue dog playfully mingle with these legendary figures, adding a fun, contemporary twist. This collaboration not only highlights the unique talents of each artist but also beautifully merges tradition with innovation in a collaborative process as the two artist take turns to paint each other’s graffiti avatar in their respective canvasses.

The gallery buzzes with the sounds of admiration and curiosity as young art appreciators wander through the displays, with each piece igniting conversations and sparking imaginations. It’s a delightful invitation to explore the rich tapestry of Filipino folklore, all seen through the eyes of two creative men living and working on the same land’s modern streets.
