Singapore isn’t a boring place. If you know what to look for, know where to look, and look hard enough, you’ll find yourself in a world full of different subcultures and passions hiding in plain sight. In the words of Jeffrey Koh, creative director of Singapore-based creative agency Flab Slab, “Almost everyday, there is something going on. Boredom is a state of mind.”
Kayo and Jeffrey talk about this and more in this episode of All Things Creative, while surrounded by toys in Flab Slab’s studio. There’s a little bit of everything here, from assorted ones that you can buy in local toy stores, to limited edition figures that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
Just like the eclectic nature of these figures surrounding these two men, Flab Slab does more than just make toys. They also work with different artists and help them make their own stuff, too. Among the hustle and bustle of Singapore’s city life, and the different demands and constant evolution of the art community, creative directors find themselves facing an overwhelming yet very rewarding opportunity that they can — or must — capitalize in.
Can Flab Slab, Jeffrey Koh, and this generation’s creative directors stand the test of time? Perhaps, like boredom, resilience is also a state of mind.
