If you don’t pay close attention, there’s a lot of heat catching fire that you’ll miss. But we’ve got your back: ACDMND$ and Nahmean Namsayin‘s “Ice” turned out to be a sleeper hit, ratcheting up a steady number of fans since it dropped in June and breaking through the million man mark this week. The Antipolo squad brought together the perfect combo of earworm hooks and beats that make it hard to forget. (Skinny G‘s thug life glasses are worth noting, too.)
Filmed largely at the Anti Drama Brand storefront with the posse out in full force to support, they shine a light on the world East of Metro. “It’s not that active here compared to South and North,” says Awie, one of the four members of ACDMND$. “That’s why we started this movement, to represent our city.”
“Our city didn’t even see us coming,” adds Skinny G.
ACDMND$ have been rapping separately since elementary school but didn’t become a group until the end of 2015 when Awie invited them to record at Studio 155, home to his independent record label. Their last track to blow up was “Take It Easy,” which dropped in 2017 and hit 2.5 milli. (Mike Ill, who’s Skinny G’s brother, and Devour are also part of the team.) But the movement has continued to grow, with another Eastside stalwart Zyme linking the group with Manila’s Nahmean Namsayin and bringing together Antipolo with Metro for “Ice,” which clearly paid off.
