Yes, it’s the AirMax 720s again. But these ones are an unreleased colorway and they’re customized… kinda. The aurora green kicks that were gifted to Kayo and appear on today’s special edition of OPENING ACT are clearly not a stock version. As he unboxes them you can instantly tell that something happened to them, but the question is whether they’ve been ruined or improved.

It can be tough to choose among your favorites, but sometimes you have to. For today’s OPENING ACT, Kayo pits his two highest-rated sneakers—Nike’s Air Vapormax 2019 and the AirMax 720—against each other in an attempt to pick an all-out winner.

Today’s OPENING ACT is an anniversary of sorts, marking Kayo’s return to his roots. We feature the Nike AirMax 720s, which was the same sneaker he used for his first-ever unboxing. And it’s a sneaker that held up well after extensive wear: “I’d wear it a couple of days every week, and I have a lot of shoes, so that says a lot.”

If you want to turn people’s heads, combining art, sneaker culture, and basketball is a great place to start. Throw in some PBA stars and make it all benefit a good cause and it’s a wrap. At Secret Fresh today you can catch the resulting mix in all its glory, organized by local stalwart Quiccs (who’s also releasing a new merch drop and sneaker sculpture) and star baller Gabe Norwood. “I’m just a little overwhelmed, to be honest,” says Norwood of the night’s turn out. “We just wanted to build the bridge between art and basketball and give back in the process.”

For today’s edition of Opening Act, Honeycomb-founder Kayo Cosio unboxes a fresh pair of Nike’s Epic Phantom React Flyknit in a black and black-university red colorway. After peeling away the tissue, it’s immediately clear that they are not red. It’s a cool color, kind of a mix of purples and pinks and reds, but certainly not university red. Kayo has another pair of these in orange, but they’re the original flyknits with laces. “By accident, I wore them without laces once and discovered they still work really well. This Phantom doesn’t have laces either.” (Full disclosure, these were sent to Kayo by Nike.) While they’re super comfy and good for a quick jog, he recommends springing for a pair with a real lacing system is you’re going to do some serious running.

Today we unpackage the Nike Air Fear Of God moccasins in a particle beige colorway for our weekly installment of “Opening Act.” Honeycomb bossman Kayo Cosio gravitates towards these as a universal pair of sneakers that are comfortable to wear in most situations and easy to match with any outfit. They were also pretty easy to cop since there are a lot of haters out there: Failing to win the raffle at Commonwealth on release day, he stopped by their shop the following morning to see if anyone failed to pick up their pair, and indeed two colorways in his size were up for grabs. “A lot of people call them basura,” he laughs. But the lightweight feel and understated design appeal to him.
